OMEGA

The Constellation family is one of Omega’s oldest collections, it has been around for almost 70 years. Starting out in 1952 as a chronometer for men, since then it has countless aesthetic transformations.
 
By the arrival of quartz, Omega was quick on their feet embracing the quartz revolution and in 1970, the brand presented three lines of watches with quartz calibers, one of these models, the Constellation.

In the 1970s, Omega employed the ESA 9162 (date complication only) and ESA 9164 (day/date complication) tuning fork movements in many of their watches. These movements are often considered the “Rolls Royce” of tuning fork movements. Designed by Max Hetzel, who had previously worked for Bulova; he was also responsible for the Accutron 214.  
 
We have today an incredible tuning fork timepiece, dated from 1972, this is a vintage Omega Electronic F300Hz Constellation Chronometer wristwatch, reference 198.0033. Also, known as the “Omega f300” – reflecting the frequency of the tuning fork.

It is an electronic watch powered by an original Omega electronically controlled tuning fork movement caliber 1250 (ESA 9162), 12 jewels, sweep second, day indicator (quickset), electrical hack feature, unadjusted, Swiss made. The movement is also signed: Lic. Bulova PAT.

Still the original champagne dial with two-tone gold and black hour markers, black minute/second track, gold/luminous matching hands, and a red sweep second-hand. The date window is located at 3 o’clock and the dial is also signed with the Omega name and logo, Electronic f300Hz and Constellation Chronometer.

Cased in a 35.6mm round case, 14K yellow gold-filled case/bezel and stainless-steel back. Original signed Omega crown. It comes on a new-old-stock black Genuine Lizard two-piece strap.

This wristwatch is still in very good condition!

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
